2008 NRHyA Varsity Reining Club

December 29th, 2007 to December 12th, 2008

About

The Varsity Reining Club ("VRC") was established to engage youth members and encourage them to become more active at both the local and national levels. This program will offer NRHyA members opportunities to contribute to the youth association in addition to developing valuable life skills that will allow them to be successful contributing members of society.

There are five levels to the program, as members advance through the levels, they become eligible for more opportunities within NRHyA. In addition to the opportunities, they will receive awards and recognition for their accomplishments.

Youth members are awarded points, separate from their NRHA Show points, the VRC points can be earned by doing any combination of projects listed. Members must complete at least two projects from the Category 1 list and one project from the Category 2 list. The category 1 activities focus on skills that aid in developing teamwork and volunteering, category 2 activities allow the members to be more creative and artistic.

Within each of the two categories there are five activities. Each activity lists specific guidelines, provides examples and the specific amount of points awarded for completing that activity. Some activities are restricted in the amount of items the members are allowed to submit. All items must be submitted with in 30 days of completion, credit will not be given for items submitted after 30 days.

Online entry forms are available at www.nrhya.com for each activity listed. The youth are responsible for submitting a completed form to receive points for their efforts. The forms will be unique to each activity and contain information the member must provide in order to be given credit for their work.

The points are tracked through a database. As a youth registers for the program, they submit their name, member number, email address, phone, age and address. From that point on when they submit activity forms the points will be added and a total will be kept. Members are able to check their points and view others points at www.nrhya.com.

The program runs from December 16, 2007 through December 15, 2008.

In addition to the youth members interacting with one another and participating in the program, we also want to provide life skills that will help them grow and mature. Stressing the importance of community service, being an active member in a group and learning to work with others, public speaking, written communications skills and creativity are all important skills that can be further developed by participating in this program.

Parents play a key role in the success of this program. Provided members are made aware of the Varsity Reining Club and how it operates, the benefits and rewards should be enough to motivate the youth to participate. Activities are submitted based on the honor system and we ask the parents to be accountable for the youth's actions and activities. At the bottom of each form the parents are required enter their NRHA member I.D. or post an electronic signature to the form.
